June 2025 On The Homestead
The month of June was decent on our homestead; completed things, everything’s flourishing, and it was busy with the kids schedule. I’m so happy it’s summer break, and the weather has been beautiful. Although our July hasn’t started out great(more on that in next month’s recap), I’m getting this June recap out! So, check out June 2025 on the homestead below.

CLEAN UP & PROJECTS

Our garden is growing really well this year. I’m so glad I added the new no dig spots last year, it’s given me more space. I’m considering another long row for next year – we’ll see?! And all the temporary fencing I added has kept the animals out.

I may have a container/pot problem?!
Here’s the thing, it’s a common misconception that homesteads and farms are glamorous. That they are always organized, pristine, and idyllic. That’s far from the truth, I’m sure even big farms like the Ballerina Farm has it’s cluttered messy areas.
Little farmers/homesteaders such as myself don’t have employees or farm help and will often – okay 100% of the time always have at least one area that looks like the above or below photo. After all, it’s a constant workplace.
I still have a few more “organized chaos” areas to work on this summer, to clean up some of the clutter before winter comes.

IN THE GARDEN

Like I said, our garden is doing well this year. June we harvested herbs, strawberries, elderberries, raspberries, mullein leaves, calendula flowers, sugar snap peas, radishes, garlic and kale.

There’s also been a ton of flowers popping up, we’ve made a few bouquet’s and just enjoying the blooms.
animals on the homestead

Animals are all doing great, living their best lives!

Our 7 chicks are growing up, they now spend all day outside in a play pen with a cover and then go back into the garage for bedtime. Hoping within the next week or two they are sleeping and living with the others. Mama Coco has now flown the nest, and back with the flock :)

We are definitely doing the natural beekeeping approach, and just pretty much letting them do their thing with a little assistance. They seem to be doing really well, thankfully. We did add another deep box to their hives in June. Our area seems to have some great nectar and pollen flow.

in the kitchen

We love using up “expired” banana’s, and making banana bread. Check out two of our favorite recipes; Banana Zucchini Bread and Sourdough Banana Bread.

Of course our FAVORITE Sourdough Focaccia recipe, we used homegrown herbs and garlic this time.

My tea and home apothecary collection is growing. I just finished some dandelion leaf tincture, calendula oil, and dried a bunch of stinging nettle.
life & what i’m loving
Almost the whole month of June was filled with the kids finishing off the school year, and school activities. Field trip to the local zoo, yearly class project(she chose to do it on honey bees), field day, and fund-run.

Over the month we played at park/beach a few times, went for some hikes, and did the Key Pen Parks Gnome Hunt again this year. It was so much fun, and we saw so many beautiful creations.
Hope your summer is going well, I’ll see you in a couple weeks for a July recap!
