December 2024 On The Homestead
Well, I can officially say 2024 flew by! The last month of the year – December – was fairly good to us, minus getting a winter time cold. Check out December 2024 on the homestead, below.

CLEAN UP & PROJECTS
Most of our 4 acres is woodland, and I have a love-hate relationship with it.
We were spoiled with the most beautiful sunrises at our old house. Our new place is surrounded by trees, so we’ve learned to love and appreciate every sunrise/sunset we get. And there is something special about watching one on top of the tall trees.
The trees also provide us with a little cooler temps on those hot summer days, but they also block a lot of sunlight for plants.
Although the trees can provide us with so much; shade, privacy, wood for burning, and free landscaping items. They can also cause a lot of damage especially during storms.
IN THE GARDEN
It’s still the off-season in the garden. It’s been a mild December, and I’m really bummed I didn’t plant more cool season crops. During the month, we were still harvesting a few herbs, carrots, kale, chard, and first time growing brussel sprouts.
Strangely enough some strawberries grew to full size, but never finished ripening. There’s also some calendula, and borage flowering still.

ANIMALS ON THE HOMESTEAD
Animals doing great, just tired of the rain. Still have most of the boys(roosters), although two(the white and black ones) headed to their new farm on New Years Day. Thankfully, because they began picking on the smallest of the bunch. To the point where I think they would of peeked him to death if we didn’t separate them the last couple days they were together.
IN THE KITCHEN
Another busy month in the kitchen; we made lots of sourdough recipes, turkey pot pie with leftover, treats and many other things.
We also had a week of HelloFresh meals that I managed to get for 75% off. They were perfect to make with kids.
We also celebrated St. Lucia Day with pastries, and I mincemeat pies for the first time. Next year we’ll make saffron bread (lussekatter), and hopefully she’ll agree to wear the outfit.
Here’s both my No Bake Oatmeal Cookie Recipe & Sugar Cookies! I’ll hopefully have a recipe up for my frosting, as it’s the best!
LIFE & WHAT I’M LOVING
We had a lot packed into the month. School, gym, sickness(I had a good cough that lasted about 3 weeks), playdates, and we bought Wicked on Amazon as soon as it was available. It’s such a great movie!
We did lots of Christmas activities during the month too, and enjoyed a much needed winter break. Our Christmas Day was great. even though it felt like it was weeks away – that could of been from all the sickness in the house during December. We had a relaxing day; playing with new things, and eating delicious foods.
We saw Santa at the One Heart Wild Sanctuary!
Of course our Elf arrived, and I can honestly say I’m over the Elf on the Shelf tradition! But we’ve been doing it for SO many years.
Can you spot the Seattle Space Needle?
Have you seen these funny Fugglers stuffed animals yet?
Hope you had a wonderful holiday, and great start to the new year! I’d love to hear from you in the comments, anything memorable from your month?
