Items That Help Us Survive Cold & Flu Season
We’ve all experience it, the dreaded cold & flu season. It’s bound to hit us all each year. If you’re lucky you’ll only get it once over the season.
The cold & flu season typically runs from October thru May around here. When the viruses are thriving in the colder temperatures, cold air slows down our immune systems and we’re all cooped up indoors spreading all those germs.
My family and I take a lot of preventative measures, but we still catch something each year. We do all the below to either help prevent it, lessen the severity, or what helps when we are sick.

Items That Help Us Survive Cold & Flu Season
Daily Supplements —
First on the list is our daily supplements we take. To help our bodies and immune systems all year, we take supplements and vitamins each day. For myself I take a women’s daily, vitamin D, collagen, and digestive enzyme each day. I’ll also take an iron, l-lysine, lymphatic support & magnesium randomly throughout the month.
Elderberry —
This also could of been added to “daily supplements”, but I wanted it to have it’s own section. Taking an Elderberry supplement is very important for your health; it’s wonderful for supporting the immune system, reducing inflammation, and promoting heart health. This is the Elderberry Gummies that we take, but they’ve got many different brands and even specifically kids ones on the market.
Fire Cider —
Fire Cider has been shown to support the immune system, fight certain infections and reduce inflammation. So, if you’re able to add it to your daily routine during the cold and flu season it’ll definitely benefit you. It’s fairly easy to make it yourself, but if you’d like to just buy it(like I’m doing this year), here is a great Fire Cider made by a small business!
Essential Oils —
Another must have for my family and house all year is essential oils and oil diffusers. This diffuser is great if you’re in the market. We use peppermint essential oil and “Breath” essential oil a lot when we are stuffed up. Essential oils are great for cleaning germs out of the air. They even have essential oil rollers, which are great too!

Beekeepers Natural Products —
If you haven’t added any Beekeepers Natural’s to your medicine cabinet, I don’t know what you’re waiting for. Bees are such an important role to our wellbeing, and health. It’s a huge reason why I became a beekeeper. The Immune Support daily spray is a must have for us. They have so many other amazing products as well, such as Kids Cough Syrup.
Liquids —
This is another important thing you want to plan ahead for. Before a cold or flu hit your house, make sure you are stocked with liquids. My go-to’s are water(of course), teas, bone broth, warm water with raw honey and fresh squeezed lemon. Pineapple juice is a great for the common cold. Liquid I.V.’s(electrolyte drink mix) are also a must for both the common cold and flu.
Thermometer —
A good thermometer is good to have in your medicine cabinet to monitor fevers. Here’s a good no-touch one!
Heated Blanket —
A heated blanket is just one of those comfort objects for when you’re not feeling well.
Humidifier —
Having a humidifier will help ease congestion with a common cold. Get one that’s easy to fill and clean.

Medicines —
I try to keep our health choices as clean as possible, but there are sometimes when more relief is needed. I like to be prepared, so yes, we do own Dayquil. And we use Vicks Vaporub, and Vicks Inhaler!
Those are all my must haves for the cold and flu season! Of course there’s all the obvious; get plenty of rest, hand-sanitizer, clean frequently, and get outside as much as possible.
What’s something that helps you during the cold & flu season?
