Refresh Your Porch for Fall with These Cozy Walmart Finds
There is something about the first few weeks of fall that makes me want to completely cozy up our front porch.
Give me a couple of mums, a pile of pumpkins, a pretty wreath, and a lantern glowing beside the front door and suddenly I’m ready for chilly mornings, muddy boots, soup simmering on the stove, and everything else that comes with fall on the homestead.
But here’s the thing—I don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars decorating a porch for one season.
So I went looking at Walmart’s fall porch finds, and there are actually some really cute and affordable options available right now.
You don’t need to replace everything you already own, either. My favorite way to decorate for fall is to mix a handful of new seasonal pieces with things we already have around the house and homestead.
Note: These products were available when I put this post together in September 2026. Seasonal inventory and prices can change quickly, especially as we get closer to Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Start With a Fall Wreath
If you’re only going to buy one thing, make it a wreath.
It instantly changes the front door without requiring you to redecorate the entire porch.
Walmart currently has a Better Homes & Gardens Willow Wreath for around $22. It has a natural-and-gold look with dried-looking botanicals and grain-inspired stems, which I love because it isn’t screaming Halloween.
That means you can put it up now and leave it through Thanksgiving.
Walmart also has plenty of traditional orange, yellow, pumpkin and eucalyptus wreaths if you want more color.
My porch tip: If your porch already has a lot happening with pumpkins and mums, choose a simpler wreath. If everything else is fairly neutral, let the wreath be the statement piece.
Bring Out the Mums
Nothing says fall porch quite like mums.
This is usually where I start because plants give you a ton of color without needing a bunch of little decorations everywhere.
Put one large mum on each side of the door or group several different sizes together.
And don’t feel like you need fancy planters.
Walmart currently has the Mainstays 16-inch Flint Resin Planter for around $7.44. It’s black, simple, made for indoor/outdoor use and would look gorgeous filled with orange, yellow, burgundy or white mums.
For something larger, there’s also a Mainstays Parker Tall Cream Planter for around $23.
I especially love mixing black, cream, terra-cotta and wood tones for fall rather than making everything bright orange.
Add a Fall Doormat
This is another inexpensive change that makes a surprisingly big difference.
Walmart currently has the Calloway Mills Hello Fall Doormat for around $20. It’s made with coir and has a vinyl backing, so it’s actually useful for muddy fall shoes instead of just being decorative.
And if you already have a plain coir mat?
Keep it!
Layer it over a larger plaid outdoor rug you already own. The layered-rug look makes the entryway feel much more finished without adding a bunch of clutter.
Add ONE Cozy Fall Pillow
I’m emphasizing one because it’s very easy to walk into the seasonal aisle and somehow come home with seven pumpkin pillows.
Ask me how I know.
If you have a porch chair, bench or rocking chair, one inexpensive pillow is enough to bring in another fall color.
Walmart currently has a Mainstays 16 x 16 reversible fall leaf outdoor pillow for about $5.
Five dollars!
That’s exactly the kind of seasonal decorating purchase I like because you can tuck it away at the end of November without feeling like you invested a fortune into it.
Add a plaid throw you already own and suddenly that plain porch chair looks ready for fall.
Bring in the Pumpkins
Here’s where I would actually save some money.
Instead of buying a dozen decorative pumpkins, mix just a couple of faux pumpkins with real pumpkins.
Use orange pumpkins, white pumpkins, gourds and whatever interesting varieties you can find.
And don’t line them up perfectly.
Group them around your planters, tuck a little pumpkin beside a lantern, put one on top of an upside-down wooden crate, and scatter a few around the steps.
Uneven groups usually look much more natural.
Bonus points if some of the pumpkins came straight from your own garden!
Add a Warm Glow With a Fall Lantern
THIS might be my favorite Walmart find.
Walmart currently has the Better Homes & Gardens Black Metal Lantern Candle Holder 18“ for about $24.
Imagine this glowing beside a pot of mums after the sun goes down.
So cozy!
If you already own lanterns, though, don’t buy new ones just because they’re labeled “fall.”
Put a battery-operated candle inside the lanterns you already have and surround them with pumpkins, leaves or a little fall greenery.
Same effect. Less money.
Shop Your Own House Before Buying Anything
This is probably my biggest tip.
Before you head to Walmart, walk around your house, garage, shed and garden.
Look for:
wooden crates
baskets
old galvanized buckets
lanterns
terra-cotta pots
wooden stools
plaid blankets
crocks
watering cans
wooden signs
old chairs
Bring some of those things onto the porch.
An old wooden crate turned on its side can give you height for a pumpkin or mum.
A galvanized bucket can become a planter.
An old basket can hold pumpkins.
A vintage chair can hold a mum.
Sometimes the thing your porch needs isn’t another decoration—it’s just a little layering.
My Simple Fall Porch Formula
If you want the cozy look without buying 20 different things, keep it simple.
Start with a fall wreath on the door.
Place two mums near the entrance.
Add three to five pumpkins in different sizes.
Put down a fall doormat.
Add one lantern.
And if you have a chair or bench, toss on one fall pillow or plaid blanket.
That’s it.
You really don’t need much more.
Once you start adding pumpkins, plants and natural fall colors, the porch fills up surprisingly quickly.

Then I’d fill in the rest with real mums, pumpkins and things I already own.
You could easily choose only two or three of these pieces and still completely change the look of your entryway.
Make It Last Through Thanksgiving
One thing I try to keep in mind when buying fall decor is how long I’ll actually be able to use it.
That’s why I tend to choose pumpkins, leaves, mums, plaids, lanterns and harvest colors instead of decorating the entire porch specifically for Halloween.
Then when Halloween is over, I can simply remove the jack-o’-lanterns or spooky decorations and leave everything else.
Suddenly the same porch works for Thanksgiving.
More decorating time, less money spent—and less stuff I have to store!
A Cozy Fall Porch Doesn’t Have to Cost a Fortune
You don’t need the perfectly styled front porch you see all over Pinterest.
Especially on a real homestead.
There might be muddy boots sitting by the door.
There might be chicken feed that needs to be carried to the coop.
There might be leaves everywhere five minutes after you swept them.
That’s real life.
But adding a pretty wreath, a couple pots of mums, some pumpkins and a glowing lantern can make that everyday space feel a little more special.
So grab a cup of coffee, pull out the fall decorations you already own, and then fill in the gaps with a few affordable Walmart finds.
Because sometimes all it takes is a $5 pillow, a mum and a pumpkin or two to make it officially feel like fall.
