Winter Bucket List
Our family creates a bucket list for each season, it gives us something to look forward to, and a reference of ideas. It also helps with the gloomy weather. Our winter bucket list typically looks like the below, but we did add in a few extra things we wanted to do this season.
What do and/or your family enjoy doing each winter?

Winter Bucket List

Tree Lighting Festival
We’ve been enjoying going to our local tree lighting festival for many years now. It’s such a fun tradition, with the community all getting together to celebrate the season.

Winter Solstice
I’ve always acknowledged the winter solstice, but have never actually celebrated it. This year I’d love to make a yule log dessert, a winter meal and wassail surrounded by candle light. Make some crafts with the kids, and write things to let go of on paper and burn them. Just have a full day of celebrating!

The Nutcracker
Now that my daughter is older, I’m planning on taking her to The Nutcracker. I’m thinking we’ll stay on the Kitsap Peninsula for a show, do you have a performance suggestion?

Bake Cookies & Cinnamon Rolls
One of my favorite traditions is baking and creating cookies. We have a lot of favorites every holiday season; Peppermint Oreo Cookies, No-Bake Oatmeal Cookies, Sugar Cookies, and Shortbread Cookies. Our newest tradition is making homemade cinnamon rolls for some of our family and friends.
don’t miss this cookie recipe!

Drink Hot Cocoa
We live in a wet and cold area, so during winter we drink a lot of hot drinks. Teas, coffee, cider, and hot cocoa. We are going to make a hot cocoa bar this year and watch a holiday movie.

Christmas Market
I’m going to try gifting more homemade, and locally made items this year. So, I plan on visiting a few local Christmas Market’s.

Holiday Movies
Watch as many holiday movies as we can, and listen to Christmas music!! But who doesn’t do that?! We typically start November 1st, I like to start celebrating as early as possible. If you’re local to the Seattle area, 106.9 #2 plays Christmas music year round – you’re welcome!

Polar Express Train Ride
We haven’t done the Santa/Polar Express train ride in a few years, so I’d like to do that again this year. I just hope all the seats haven’t sold out already.
The Polar Express book is free with an Audiobook subscription!

Yearly Ornaments
We’ve had a tradition of picking out yearly ornaments for the kids since they were babies. Actually, I’ve been doing it my whole life.
I’m ordering this ornament in memory of my Mom!

Zoolights
Another one of our traditions is going to our local zoo’s Zoolights. It’s such a magical experience, visit your local zoo for a fun time! Just remember to dress appropriately.

Gingerbread House
We enjoy creating a Gingerbread House each year. Are we good at it? Absolutely not, but we have a lot of fun doing it. We buy the pre-built houses, so all you have to do is decorate. Makes it so much more enjoyable.

Polar Plunge
If you’ve never heard of a polar plunge, it’s a popular activity around here to ring in the New Year. On New Year’s Day join a group to run into or jump into some kind of body of cold water, to jump start the new year. I did my first cold plunge last New Year’s Day, and have been enjoying doing them all year in our local salt water.

Visit Santa
What’s the holiday season without a visit to Santa Clause. Over the years we’ve seen him at the town’s tree lighting festival, Bass Pro Shop, and local events. I’ve never been into going to the mall Santa, but you do you.

Play in the Snow
We love playing in the snow, and thankfully we’ve been blessed with snow each year, so there hasn’t been a need to go to the mountains. But this year I was thinking of heading to Summit Tubing Park for an afternoon sledding session.

Go Ice Skating
I’d like to take my youngest ice skating this year, she’s never been. So, we definitely want to go the local ice rink this winter! I’ll just be wearing comfy cushing pants just in case for falls.
