Old McDebbie’s Farm & Jim’s U-Fish in Spanaway
Old McDebbie’s Farm and Jim’s U-Fish is a local farm that’s open to the public with so many different activities to enjoy. If you’re local to the Pacific Northwest and looking for something fun to do this summer they’re open!
It’s been a tough summer especially if you have children at home and everything being closed. We still need activities and entertainment for our children. So, I’m appreciative for the places that are open.
Before heading to the farm, you’ll want to check out all the information below. I’ll share all about the farm and our experience, as well as specific summer 2020 info!
Old McDebbie’s Farm & Jim’s U-Fish

Jim’s U-Fish
The two freshwater ponds are located inside the farm, so general admission is required. They are always stocked with rainbow trout and if you don’t have a fishing pole you can rent one($3), while supplies last. Each fish caught is $6 and they will clean them all for you with a $2 fee. Due to insurance reasons, only staff are allowed to clean fish. Net fishing is not allowed. No catch and release.
Activities
Old McDebbie’s has many different activities for all ages, whether you just want to relax at the farm or get all the wiggles out!
Fishing Ponds
Eye Spy Trail
A Musical Forest: love that they use recycled materials to make the instruments!
Petting Zoo & Animal Exhibits, including some exotic animals and a barn with animals inside. Veggie buckets are $3 each to feed the animals.
Jungle Gym: I’m not sure if this is open during covid19
Hands On Activities: I’m sure all the hands on stuff is different this year because of the coronavirus. When we went to the farm last year, this was a popular spot for my daughter and she could of easily spent half the day there. They had so much hands on learning and activity stuff from sand tables to lawn games.
Picnic Tables: You are allowed to be in your own food, but the food you bring in is your families only – do not feed the animals. And please be respectful and clean up after yourselves. Alcohol is prohibited and birthday cake, balloons, party favors, etc are for birthday party rental areas only. The office does have small snacks and beverages for purchase.
Farm Tour: The farm tour is a staff guided tour of the property for more of an in depth experience. Treats for the animals will be provided and you will be able to hold/pet animals that are in special exhibits. The tour is subject to run, as certain animals need to be moved and select staff lead them. $5 per person
Pony Rides
The pony ride was a huge hit for my daughter last year, she had an amazing time and did so well. A Pony Ride is $6 and parents must accompany smaller riders. Keep in mind there is an 80 lb weight limit.
Animals
When visiting the farm you can expect to see a lot of animals, so if your child loves animals they’ll be in heaven! The farm has a variety of animals; from goats, pigs, ponies, sheep to kangaroos, camels, deer, zebra and more!
It was so great getting to visit and see all the different animals in their cages. And we especially loved that many of the animals are free roaming and get to walk along with us. Not every day you get to cuddle with a baby deer or feed a baby goat a bottle – which the staff let Piper do and she LOVED it! It’s an experience we’ll never forget.
Other Info
If you need the restroom, there is a porta-potty available but I’d suggest bringing hand sanitizer.
Please leave your dogs at home, as only service animals are allowed on the property to ensure the safety of their animals.
They do occasionally have animals available for adoption, so please refer to their Facebook page for available animals and if you’re looking for something in particular let them know so they can get you on the list.
They have Road Events which you could either do Animal Rentals, Portable Ponds, Train Ride Rentals. Check out the information here.
They host Farm Events throughout the year like Pumpkins, Ladybug Festival, Grandparents Day and more. Check out the information here and keep in mind I’m not sure if they will be hosting them during 2020 so I’d suggest reaching out to them to check.
Please remember to be kind, respectful and responsible to all the animals and property!!
