My New Year Goals
As we wrap up the year, and ring in a new one. Before I begin thinking about my new year goals, I always like to reflect on the past year. I’ve never been more thrilled to welcome in a new year.
It was a very challenging year for us. It was filled with friendship challenges, an unexpected “loss” of a beloved teacher, and the biggest challenge of my life; my mom unexpectedly passed away beginning of summer. It was a profoundly difficult year!
I’ve definitely been learning resilience, and self-awareness this past year. I’m thankful for my family, and being able to lean on each other this year. I’m also thankful for those friend challenges, because they were truly a blessing in disguise. My health & well-being has really been working hard this year and I’m so thankful for it. Of course I’m also thankful for my home; it’s been good to me this year and being able to spend so much time outdoors this past summer really helped my mental health.
A few glimpses into our year!
As we enter the new year, I’ve been thinking about my new year goals and things I want to work on achieving.
I’ll be focusing on three main goals for the new year, and will break them down a little.
Living Minimally and Intentionally
One thing I’ve learned over the past year is I want to live a life with more meaning & value & with less distractions.
After cleaning out my mom’s place, you come to realize, are your belongings going to matter to others, or are they just overwhelming you mentally while you are alive. And do you really want to leave your loved ones with all your “stuff” to deal with when you go? Thankfully my mom had a tiny home, and not much stuff – but not me, I’m not a hoarder, but I have a ton of stuff that really doesn’t mean much to me.
I began decluttering the other day, and I literally filled two garbage bags worth of clothes I haven’t worn in years. I’ll continue working on decluttering our home, and lives.
I’m also going to work on cutting out unnecessary spending.
I’d also like to have slow Sunday’s, and take a break from social media! A day to be present, reflect, and recharge for the week.
Self-Sufficient & Self-sustainable
This is something I’ve already been working on, being more self-sufficient & self-sustainable. Less dependent on the stores and others. Four years ago this January, we bought our 4 acres property, and immediately started turning it into a homestead. These are the things I’d like to either learn, work on or continue doing this year.
- Eat more from scratch – less take out! To save money & our health.
- I already meal plan for the week, but I’d like to work on more meal prepping. Get in the habit of making freezer meals, for those nights I don’t feel like cooking.
- Make my own natural hygiene and cleaning products; soaps, skin care, candles, ect.
- Expand our food production, but not necessarily garden space. I’ll be working on the soil, weed control, and pest control of our existing spaces.
- Build a compost system
Financial
Like I mentioned above, I’d love to cut out unnecessary spending.
Everyone usually makes some kind of goal regarding money, and I’m no different.
My online platform creates a little income to help pay for our homesteading expenses, but not for everything. I’d love for the homestead to pay for itself; so either with online content and/or selling physical products. My goal within the next couple years would be to either have a physical farm stand, sell at a farmers market, or have an online storefront. And we need to save up for larger expenses coming up, we’ll be needing a tractor in the near future.
I’ve got the ability, and knowledge of creating more online content, to help out our household financially. My biggest challenge will be time management, and consistency. This is my year! As Chit would say, “Do It Lady!”
How was your 2025? Do you have any goals for the new year you’d like to share? I’d love to hear about them, leave me a comment or send me a message.
