APPLE PIE INGREDIENTS & SUBSTITUTIONS
- Apples
- White Sugar – I’ve used both granulated sugar and cane sugar, both come out great
- Corn Starch
- Apple Pie Spice
- Lemon Juice
- Butter
- Pie Crust(double) – Homemade or store bought pie crust
Do I have to use corn starch? You can substitute the corn starch for all-purpose flour, the pie just comes out a tad bit more runny but still taste amazing.
Can I make these vegan? Yes, use a vegan butter. And find a vegan pie crust recipe or look for Pillsbury Pet-Ritz Frozen Deep Dish pie crust.
Can I made these gluten free? Yes, just make or buy a premade gluten free pie crust.
What apple to use? We’ve made pie with just about every apple variety and even with a few different in one pie. The only apple NOT to use is Red Delicious, you’ll get a mushy and flavorless pie.
