Sourdough Waffles Or Pancakes

An easy batter recipe for delicious and fluffy waffles (or pancakes) using sourdough discard. These can be made right away, with only a 20 minute rest time.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Waffle Iron or Pan

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sourdough starter discard
  • 1 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbps granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 Tbsp vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, mix all the ingredients togethers until combined. Allow the batter to rest for 20 minutes at room temperature.
  • Preheat your waffle iron or pan.
  • Lightly grease your iron or pan. For waffles: pour 3/4 cup of batter into the center of the iron and cook until golden brown. For pancakes: pour 1/2 cup of batter into the center of the pan. Cook until the bottom is golden brown(watch for bubbles), flip and cook until the pancake is cooked through.
  • Makes about 4 waffles or 8 pancakes.
