What is a drop cake?
Also known as a dump cake. Very similar to a cobbler, but has more of a cake topping. Like the name, “drop or dump”, the ingredients are just dumped into the pan. In the recipe book it was called a drop cake, so I’m keeping the title.
Pineapple Cherry Drop Cake
This cake makes the perfect dessert for your small get together, or bring to a potluck. If you make it for your 4th of July party, it’ll be a hit! It screams summer time with the pineapple, and cherry flavors.
It is very delicious, with minimal work.
Enjoy it plain, top it with ice cream, or whipped creamed.
Pineapple Cherry Drop Cake Recipe
Ingredients You’ll Need:
1.Crushed Pineapple: you can easily find a 20 oz can of at the grocery store, try to avoid one with added sugar/syrup
2.Cherry Pie Filling: this is typically found in the baking area of your grocery store, and I’ve found both the Walmart & brands taste just as good as the leading brand that is double the price
3.Box Cake Mix: is my go-to for box cake mixes, they taste good and fail proof
4.Butter: in my opinion butter is everything, either salted or unsalted. Butter is a must in our household!
5.Optional: all these are optional for your Pineapple Cherry Drop Cake. You could add walnuts, or pecans to your cake. Top it with ice cream, whipped cream, or without no topping.
Pineapple Cherry Drop Cake Recipe Tips:
• When adding the cans of pinapple and cherry, although you can literally just dump and evenly spread. I do like stir the pineapple, and cherry a couple times with a spoon. That’s not required, but it does taste a little better. Just don’t stir the cake mix and butter in.
• I’ve had these for years now, and they still look brand new. They are easy to clean, and don’t chip easily. So, stock your kitchen with some good baking items.
• If you’re taking the cake to a party/potluck, a disposable baking pan works wonderfully. This one is perfect, and has a lid too.
• This cake taste great the same day it was made, it also taste good the next day. If you’ve stored in the fridge, make sure to warm up the cake again.
