Our Family Winter Bucket List
Our family creates a bucket list for each season, it gives us something to look forward to and a reference of ideas. We recently sat down and came up with the list below for our winter bucket list. What do and/or your family enjoy doing each winter?
Our Family Winter Bucket List
My family has been enjoying our town’s tree lighting festival for many years. It may be a different town from when we began, but the same concept. The community getting together to celebrate the season.
I’ve always acknowledged the winter solstice day, but have never actually celebrated it. This year I’d love to make a yule log dessert, a winter meal and wassail surrounded by candle light. Make some crafts with the kids, and write things to let go of on paper and burn them.

One of my favorite traditions is baking and creating cookies. We have a lot of favorites every holiday season; Peppermint Oreo Cookies, No-Bake Oatmeal Cookies, Sugar Cookies, and Shortbread Cookies. Our newest tradition is making homemade cinnamon rolls for some of our family and friends.
don’t miss this cookie recipe!
We live in a wet and cold area, so during winter we drink a lot of hot drinks. Teas, coffee, cider, and hot cocoa. We are going to make a hot cocoa bar this year and watch a holiday movie.
Watch as many holiday movies as we can, and listen to Christmas music!! But who doesn’t do that?!
We’ve had a tradition of picking out yearly ornaments for the kids since they were babies.
Another one of our traditions is going to our local zoo’s Zoolights. It’s such a magical experience, visit your local zoo for a fun time! Just remember to dress appropriate.
We enjoy creating a Gingerbread House each year. Are we good at it? Absolutely not, but we have a lot of fun doing it. I try to buy the pre-built ones, because getting it to stand up is always hard with kids.
Have you a heard of a Polar Plunge? It’s a popular activity to ring in the New Year around here. On New Year’s Day join a group to take a cold plunge. I’ve always wanted to join, this is my year, I’m going to participate!
Visit Santa! What’s the holiday season without a visit to Santa Clause. Over the years we’ve seen him at the town’s tree lighting festival, and Bass Pro Shop. Last year, and hopefully this year we’ll be seeing him at the local Santa Breakfast.
We are looking forward to playing in the snow this year! They predicted for a colder and more snowy winter for us this year. So, I’m hoping we don’t have to drive up to the mountains this year to play in the snow. We’ve got hills for sledding, and trees that make it feel like we’re in the mountains.
I’d like to try Ice Skating this year. It’s been years since we’ve gone, and my youngest has never gone. So, we definitely want to go the local ice rink this winter!
We love the winter time, so much festive things to do! What are some things you and/or your family love to do during the winter and holiday season? I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
Baking Christmas cookies and visiting Santa are a tradition for my family too. I’d love to try making a yule log dessert!
Wow I love all your content it is wonderful to have such a great website. Thankyou so much, Ken Ohl
That’s a pretty graphic-the holiday list. That’s brave of you to do the plunge.
