Make your own Mardi Gras King Cake

Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, which is a celebration of the last night to eat rich, fatty foods before lent. Do you celebrate Mardi Gras? We started the traditional night of Mardi Gras last year, but not on the actual day. We indulge ourselves in some tasty Cajun foods, including the popular King Cake. Last year the only place we found a King Cake was at Whole Foods and after paying over $15 for a “cinnamon roll with sprinkles” I decided this year we’d make our own.
This King Cake is so easy and simple to make, a child could do it. With only needing Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls, Sprinkles and a bundt cake pan. Cost us less than $10, all we had to buy were the cinnamon rolls because we already had all the sprinkle colors in our pantry.
Preheat oven to 375°, and spray your bundt pan with cooking spray. Be sure to get a cute little helper! Evenly layer your cinnamon rolls in the pan. Cook in a preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, once they’ve browned and no longer look doughy take out of the oven and let cool for about 5 minutes.

Flip the pan over onto a large enough plate and lightly shake until the cake comes out. For the frosting, take the metal part off of the little cup of cream cheese and microwave for about 15 seconds. Slowly drizzle the cream cheese frosting over the cake, make sure to cover the full top. It will drizzle down the sides. Now immediately sprinkle purple, yellow and green sprinkles over the frosting.

And ENJOY!!
With the traditional King Cake you randomly place a small plastic baby inside, which the baby symbolizes luck and prosperity to whoever finds it in his/her slice of cake. Although we didn’t put a baby inside, we still had an amazing time making and eating the cake. Have you made your own King Cake? If not, do you feel comfortable enough to make it now?
