I’ve always loved cooking and baking, since I was a child. Since I can remember my go to oil has always been Olive Oil, it is so much better for our bodies. Back in 2013 when we vacationed in Greece we ate a lot of foods that were prepared with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and even though we had oil with each meal, our bodies felt wonderful. One of my favorite memories of the trip was driving up the hills of Skiathos with the wind in our hair and the wind blowing the olive trees and the smells of the trees, they were everywhere. I will never forget that!
For all the different languages spoken and various cultures celebrated, there is one common bond that flows through Europe – Extra Virgin Olive Oil!
About Extra Virgin Olive Oil
-Olive oil comes from the fruit known as a drupe of a plant Olea europaea or European olive. Olive trees may live for hundreds and even thousands of years, as long as they are well tended.
-It’s made by pressing without heat or chemicals.
-As they ripen, olives change from green to purplish to black and harvest can occur at any of these stages.
-Pressing of the olives is done quickly and in a controlled environment; exposure to heat, light and oxygen degrades the oil. And each oil is judged by expert tasters for which the oil has to meet high flavor standards of an Extra Virgin rating.
Spanish olive oil is typically golden yellow with a fruity, nutty flavor.
Italian olive oil is often dark green and has an herbal aroma and a grassy flavor.
Greek olive oil packs a strong flavor and aroma and tends to be green.
French olive oil is typically pale in color and has a mild flavor.
Getting the most out of your Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Europe
-No need to avoid the frying pan, olive oil has a high smoke point meaning you can light saute it or deep fry
-You can pair olive oil with steak, spicy foods, or milder foods such as veggies, fish, potatoes and chicken
-It makes perfect dressings and dips
-You can also bake with olive oil, but I would play around with it first because it does leave a different texture and taste in some baking recipes than other oils do
