Back in October I decided to participate in the movement DRESSEMBER, by wearing a dress or tie every day for the month of December it opens the door to bring awareness to human trafficking. It’s a sickening thought that millions of people are enslaved worldwide, including about 2 million children are currently exploited in the global commercial sex trade. Yes, CHILDREN!
By joining DRESSEMBER, I want to bring awareness to human trafficking and raise funds to help those affected by it. It’s a tough subject to talk about, let alone think about.
We need to be talking about it though, we need everyone to be aware that it is happening in our backyards and we will no longer turn a blind eye. Anyone can get caught up in it; abducted, drugged and groomed. The runaway is in just as much danger, they are vulnerable and can easily be abducted before someone even realizes. We as a community need to show these victims we care, and show these monsters that we aren’t going to stand for it to happen anymore.
So, next time you see that runaway teen’s picture floating around Facebook, they are a huge target for traffickers so don’t just keep scrolling, click share let’s get them to safety before it’s too late. We as a community can do something! We have a voice!
Over the past couple months I’ve been receiving emails from the Dressember’s email list, which they frequently share survivors short stories, well one of the sentences from the most recent story really struck me. Go here to read the full story, but after being rescued; “Maddie came to Love146 at age 11, where she received trauma-informed counselling, individualized care, and was able to explore lots activities that interested her, including gardening, caring for farm animals, and sports.” What really hit me was AT AGE 11, that’s when she escaped that awful life. That just makes me sick to my stomach, she was exploited so young. I don’t wish that life upon anyone, let alone a child.
I’m helping Dressember raise funds to end slavery! Help me reach my goal of $350 and donate(even $5 helps) and please share, share, share! Your money literally goes to help those affected by modern-day slavery. On my fundraising page also shows how your money helps, like it cost $20 for an Aftercare Kit or if $6,719 for a Full Rescue Operation(Operations are conducted with law enforcement to bring victims safely into freedom and to document key evidence against traffickers and pimps).
If you’d like more information you can go here, leave me a comment or email me. I’d love to chat! And please think about joining me in wearing a dress every day in December to raise awareness about human trafficking.
