A great way to end the school year is to surprise the kids with a bucket full of summer fun! And no this doesn’t have to cost a whole lot! I’ve done this every year since Mason started school, I have a bucket waiting for after he ends the last school day of the year. A bucket full of fun stuff for the summer, it’s just a fun little way to end the school year. It’s a simple little reward.
The whole thing, including the bucket cost only $10. DOLLAR STORE!! This stuff at any other store would of cost twice as much. The dollar store has many great things. The water squirters are a wonderful hot afternoon fun, fill a bucket full of water and let at it(a whole lot easier than water guns). The $1 inner tubes may not be the best quality but they are wonderful to throw in your trunk and for that spur of the moment lake/ocean/pool visit, you won’t feel bad if they get lost or pop. Glow sticks all over at the dollar store. Yes, the dollar store sells pop its and party poppers around the 4th of July.
So, start your child’s end of the school year, beginning of summer off with a bang!
If you haven’t heard of this fun activity, I’m here to let you in on the little secret. We recently joined in on this fun new to us activity!
What is it you may ask? It’s a treasure hunt. A stress reliever. Exercise. An excuse to get outdoors. Community engagement. Craft. Just a fun activity you can enjoy by yourself or with anyone!
What do you do? There’s a couple ways you can do this.
If you have facebook search (your town) ROCKS and see if there is already a rock group started if not start your own. The group gives you hints to where people are hiding rocks, or maybe you want some ideas of what to paint, ect.
There aren’t any rules if you only want to go hunt for rocks, go for it, if you want to join in on the painting and hiding part do that. When you find a rock keep it or rehide it, take a picture and post to social media the artist always loves to see when someone finds their rock. My family does more of the hunting but have hidden some too, Mason wants to go hunting everyday rain or shine. Below you will find helpful tips for painting.
There are no rules for what you paint and remember you don’t have to be an artist to participate! You could also write sayings/quotes/inspirational words, stickers work too(with sealant).
Tips for painting the rocks! Stop by your local store that sells craft supplies(Walmart has acrylic paints for only .50 cents) you’ll need; paints, paint brushes, paint tray, clear sealant spray works best and rocks. Rocks you can find anywhere outside, just make sure you have permission to take. Smoother rocks work best. Clean and dry the rocks, start painting. Let the paint dry and then spray the sealant. After that has dried your ready to hide. Most importantly have fun!
Giveaway! I’m giving away a $10 Walmart gift card for you to start in on the fun of ROCK PAINTING! US only please, ends 4/3.

Over the weekend, I celebrated my friend of 23 years birthday with a ladies night out at a local pottery studio. It was something new to me, I had never been to a clay studio and it was so much fun I will be back. Visiting a pottery studio is fun for all, even children will have a great time creating art pieces that they can cherish a long time. Go for a date night, ladies night out, a birthday, something fun to do just to get out of the rain. To paint your own pottery you just simply go in during opening hours, pick out a piece to paint some as low as $10, they do the glaze and fire then you pick up within a couple days! They have pieces ranging from mugs, jewelry boxes to Marvel piggie banks. Most of all, have fun and don’t be afraid if “art” isn’t your thing – they even have idea books, stamps and stencils! You don’t need a creativity bone to have fun!! » Couple tips for bringing a child, I don’t suggest this for kids under 3 as there are a lot of glass laying around and keep in mind while choosing your piece, it does take some time – the mug I painted took me a good 2 1/2 hours.
